Treat Yo Self: 5 Ways to Relax and Unwind

Sometimes we all need to take some time for ourselves to relax and unwind. Whether it's the stress of school/work, a busy week, or feeling completely exhausted, time for ourselves is necessary every now and then. Here are 5 suggestions for the next time you need to treat yourself to some "me" time.

1. Clean: I know what you're thinking. Why on earth would I want to clean when all I want to do is relax?! But I'm telling you, if you do it right, cleaning can be really relaxing! Turn on your favorite music, sing at the top of your lungs (best part of the process really), and clean up your space. You'll feel so much better and more relaxed when your room is neat, organized, and inviting.

2. Coffee: I turn to coffee in most situations (let's be honest). But it's one of my favorite ways to relax. Whether it's a hot cup of coffee at home while online shopping or an iced coffee from Starbucks while reading a book or magazine, coffee always makes things better. If you're having coffee at home I highly recommend Coffee Mate's Natural Bliss creamer. It's all natural ingredients so it's much healthier as far as coffee creamers go. I've tried the French vanilla, hazelnut, and salted caramel flavors and they are all so delicious!

3. Devotions: A great pairing for your coffee! Take some quiet time. Devotions are a great way to take your mind off of the craziness of life and to focus on spending time with God. I love "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. It's an encouraging daily devotional that's really great. I highly recommend it!

4. Netflix: After a long day, when your mind is filled with a million and one different thoughts, turning on your favorite show is a great way to unwind. I usually turn on a classic like Friends or The Office if I just want to fall asleep to a comedy I've seen way too many times. Or if I'm in the mood to get more involved in what I'm watching, I'll catch up on PLL or The Bachelorette (Who else is so sad JoJo sent Luke home?!).

5. Spa Night: Be good to yourself and rejuvenate. Take a shower/bath, put on your most comfy pajamas, and pull out all the goods. Get out your nail polish, face masks, hair masks, and candles. This could even be your chance to try that face exfoliator recipe that you spotted on Pinterest last week. Turn off the world, turn on some music, and take some time for you.

Those are some of the things that I like to do to relax and unwind. What are some ways that you take time for yourself when you're feeling overwhelmed? I'd love to hear from you! Let me know in a comment. As always thanks for reading!

  6. I feel like we might be the same person, because those are the exact same things I do to relax. Most people I know don't find cleaning relaxing but I love it.
